
The Council granting the right to implement vocational training/vocational retraining programs of the National Center for the Development of the Quality of Education of Georgia granted Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University the right to implement the vocational training program "Laboratory Health and Safety". The objective of the implementation of the program is to enhance the competences of professionals in the field of the laboratory service and support their employment through development of continuing vocational education in the field of “Laboratory Health and Safety” on the basis of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care of BSU.
The main task of the program is to retrain specialists in the laboratory field in the direction of observing the rules and norms of human and environmental safety through the strengthening of competencies and knowledge in accordance with national and international standards. Persons interested in laboratory health and safety issues and involved in laboratory activities will be directly trained.
The program was designed within the framework of the ongoing project "Laboratory Health and Safety Continuing Education Courses for Young Professionals in West and East Georgia" with the support of the European Union. The program was developed by the joint international consortium of the project with the participation of Georgian and foreign partners, including: Tbilisi State University after Ivane Javakhishvili, the National Centre of Disease Control and Public Health after L. Sakvarelidze, the State Laboratory of Agriculture, the Biotechnology Association of Georgia, the Faculty of Biosciences and Technologies of the University of Teramo, and the Laboratory of Clinical Microbiology and Virology of the University of Milan (Italy).
