სურათი

On March 10-11, a meeting of partners and a workshop for researchers under the framework of the MACRO CLEAN (BSB00584) project “Research, Cleaning Methodologies, Economic Valorization and Pilot Application for Macroalgal Blooms” was held at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.

The meeting was attended by project partners from Turkey, Bulgaria, Georgia and local researchers. The partners presented the initial results of ongoing research in their countries related to the study of algae, their use in the process of preparing biofertilizers and also in the production of bioplastic materials. The guests visited the BSU laboratory, which is equipped with modern equipment purchased within the framework of the project, and got acquainted with the tested materials of bioplastics obtained as a result of algae processing.

During the meeting, the partners also discussed the activities to be implemented during the next phase of the project - planned trainings for students and various stakeholders, a coastal cleaning campaign, the topic/format of the workshop and international conference in Istanbul, etc.

The project aims to establish a research methodology to study the impact of algae on eutrophication, develop appropriate laboratory infrastructure and increase the economic benefits of seaweed in fertilizers and bioplastic production. Also, to raise awareness and encourage cooperation between interested parties in this process.

Within the framework of the project, in-depth research on algae is being conducted using standardized protocols and effective data management practices. The laboratories of partner universities have been improved through the purchase of new equipment and the capacity of researchers will be strengthened. Feasibility studies will be prepared to assess the use of algae in fertilizers and bioplastic production.

The MACRO CLEAN project “Research, Cleaning Methodologies, Economic Valorization and Pilot Application for Macroalgal Blooms” is implemented with the co-financing of the European Union within the framework of the Black Sea Basin Interreg NEXT Cross-border Cooperation Programme. The project partners are - Sinop University (Turkey) - Project Lead Partner, Union of Municipalities of Marmara Region (Turkey), Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (Georgia), Shumen University (Bulgaria).
