EU Integration Perspectives

Batumi, Georgia

29. – 30. 05. 2026

On 4 November 2025, the European Commission published the EU 2025 Enlargement Package, which assesses the progress of enlargement partners. The package assesses the reforms of the following countries: Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, Moldova, Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Turkey and Georgia.

The topic of the conference is the Prospects for the EU Integration. Accordingly, we invite legal researchers, professionals, practitioners, policymakers, and other interested parties from these countries to participate in the conference. The focus of the Jean Monnet Chair is EU competition law and EU consumer law. Accordingly, one of the main issues of the conference is the approximation of competition legislation and consumer protection norms of these countries to those of the European Union. However, participants can also submit their articles on the convergence of other fields of law. An electronic version of the collection of papers will be published after the conference.

The Jean Monnet Chair "Closer to the European Union" operates from September 2023 to August 2026. Its goal is to raise awareness of the European Union and promote EU values in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. The project envisages teaching EU competition law and consumer law at the Master's degree level in Economics, Business and Law at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. Also two summer trainings were held for civil servants and lawyers employed in Adjara and two summer schools were held for interested young generation in EU competition law. In addition, every semester, visits are made to Batumi public schools and public lectures are held on the history and values of the European Union.

Interested parties are asked to submit an abstract (max 200 words) by February 28, 2026. Authors will be informed by 15 March 2026 at the latest, whether their abstracts are accepted for the conference. The full version of the article, which should not exceed 10,000 words, should be submitted by April 20, 2026. The abstract and paper should be written in English and sent to the following e-mail address: smenbabdishvili@bsu.edu.ge. The conference organizer and contact person is prof. Solomon Menabdishvili.
