Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University celebrates its 90th anniversary

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University celebrated its 90th anniversary with a festive event held at the Ilia Chavchavadze State Drama Theatre. The anniversary ceremony was opened by the University Rector, Tite Aroshidze, who congratulated professors, researchers, students, and alumni on the university’s anniversary and spoke about the 90-year history of the higher educational institution, its achievements, and development prospects.

At the anniversary event, the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Davit Gabaidze, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Zviad Gabisonia, and the Minister of Education and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Maia Khajishvili, congratulated the university on this remarkable date and awarded professors and scientists for their special contribution to educational and scientific activities.

Additionally, the university’s honorary award — the Shota Rustaveli Medal — was presented to academic and scientific personnel. In a ceremonial setting, 17 honorary doctors were selected. The title of Honorary Doctor of BSU was granted to the Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Jaba Samushia; the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Davit Gurgenidze; the Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Irakli Natroshvili; the Rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University, Shalva Kirtadze; as well as representatives of the university’s partner organizations.

The event was attended by government officials, the Mayor of Batumi, Giorgi Tsintsadze, members of the City Council, rectors of various universities, representatives of the diplomatic corps and partner organizations, clergy, students, professors, and international guests.

The event featured the screening of a video reflecting the 90-year history of the university, highlighting its development and achievements. The evening concluded with a concert.

 

At the anniversary evening, by the decision of the Academic Council, the following honorary doctors were selected:
