The Dentistry program at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University was established in 1998. In 2004, the Department of Dentistry was founded (initially as a department), and in 2006 it was reorganized as a fully structured academic department.
From 2004 to 2011, the department was headed by Professor V. Chantladze. Since 2011, the head of the department has been Professor M. Bakradze.
Academic Staff:
The department currently includes:

- 1 Invited Associate Professor (from Tbilisi State Medical University)
- 21 Invited Clinician-Lecturers, including:
- with doctoral degrees
- 2 PhD candidates
Educational Programs:
In addition to the undergraduate (bachelor's) program in Dentistry, since 2009, the department has implemented postgraduate residency programs in:
- Therapeutic Dentistry
- Orthopedic Dentistry
Since 2016, the following subspecialty and specialization programs have been added:
- Surgical Dentistry of the Oral Cavity (subspecialty)
- Pediatric Therapeutic Dentistry (specialization)
University Dental Clinic – “BSU Denti”:
In 2017, the university opened its own dental teaching clinic, “BSU Denti.”
The clinic features:
- Preclinical labs for orthopedic dentistry and odontology
- Fully equipped with:
- Portable dental units
- Phantom heads and mannequins
- Audio-visual monitors
- Computers and modern dental simulators
Additionally, the clinic includes specialized rooms for:
- Therapeutic dentistry
- Orthopedics
- Radiovisiography
- Decontamination and sterilization
These facilities allow for clinical teaching as well as patient treatment, significantly enhancing both student motivation and the quality of education.
Scientific Work:
The department’s academic staff has published over 100 scientific articles and authored 4 academic textbooks, contributing significantly to the development of dental science and education in Georgia.
